Fixtures

Two outstanding fixtures originally postponed due to the weather have now been rearranged. Kidsgrove will travel to Belper Town on Saturday 10th March, having hosted New Mills earlier in the week on Tuesday 6th March.

The New Mills match is Athletic's only remaining midweek league game, which should help to keep the squad fresh to try to continue the recent good run.

A new date is still to be decided for the abandoned Staffordshire Senior Cup quarter final tie at home to Leek Town

Sutton Coldfield 0 Kidsgrove Ath 2

Liam Shotton

Two second half goals from Liam Shotton enabled Kidsgrove to overcome Sutton Coldfield in the snow at Coles Lane.

After an even first half, Shotton put Grove ahead on 58 minutes after being beating the keeper in a one-on-one situation. Eight minutes later he added a second, seeing off the attentions of two defenders before firing in a powerful finish from close range

Athletic survived a scare on 82 minutes when the referee took the teams of the pitch, but after a six minute delay to enable the pitch markings to be swept, they were able to see the game out comfortably.

With the weather wiping our every other scheduled match in the division, Kidsgrove have now moved up to 11th place.

Team: Hodgson, Smith, P Taylor, A Taylor, Crompton, Charlton, Davidson, Dove, Shotton, Kinsey (Hall), Carter. Subs: Walker, Basford, Turner, Bull

Manager of the Month accolade for Peter Ward

Peter Ward

Peter Ward has received the Evo-Stik First Division (South) Manager of the Month award for January.

The award reflects the gradual change in Athletic's fortunes since Christmas, with a record of three wins and two draws in Janaury seeing Grove move away from the relegation fight into a mid-table position.

With only one defeat in the whole of December and January, Ward and Kidsgrove will be hoping to keep the good form going and make an impact in the top half of the table.

Congratulations to Peter, the coaching staff and the players!.
