FA Competitions Draws

The draws for the early rounds of FA Cup and FA Trophy have been made today. In the FA Cup, Kidsgrove have been given a chance to atone for their exit to lower league opposition in last season’s competition with a home tie against either Biddulph Victoria or Wellington. Both sides play one level below Kidsgrove in the pyramid, near-neighbours Biddulph in the Midland Alliance and Wellington in the West Midlands Regional Premier League, where they finished 6th in 2009/10, three places behind AFC Wulfrunians, who knocked Kidsgrove out of the competition last season. The winners of this match will be at home to newly-promoted Chasetown who also travel to the Seddon Stadium for a friendly on Saturday 17th July and are becoming familiar cup opponents.

An old rivalry will be renewed in the FA Trophy as Kidsgrove make the trip to Mossley. The two clubs have not met in the league since the split into a North and South division in 2006/07 and previously competed fiercely in the North West Counties League in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The journey to Seel Park will represent a rare trip north for Kidsgrove in recent FA competitions, normally being drawn against teams from the Midlands. The winners of this match will travel to either Warrington Town or Shepshed Dynamo.

Last season’s finishing positions:

Biddulph Victoria: Midland Alliance, 17th
Wellington: West Midlands Regional Premier League, 6th
Chasetown: Northern Premier League Division One (South), 2nd and promoted
Mossley: Northern Premier League Division One (North), 7th
Warrington: Northern Premier League Division One (North), 9th
Shepshed Dynamo: Northern Premier League Division One (South), 17th
