Kidsgrove champions of Staffordshire again!

Sam Hall

Kidsgrove's recent domination of the Stafforshire Senior Cup continued as they retained the trophy with a 1-0 win in extra-time over Rushall Olympic.

Sam Hall's deflected strike with eight minutes remaining proved sufficient to hand Athletic a fifth final win in nine years and become the first team since Kidderminster Harriers in 1985 to successfully retain the trophy.

Kidsgrove Ath 2 Coalville Town 2 - League season ends in a draw

Coalville Town

Kidsgrove came from two goals behind to secure a point in the final league match of the season and extend their unbeaten run to nine games. An entertaining encounter saw the visitors take the lead with a crisp finish from David Blenkinsopp and they went further ahead when Ant Carney headed in shortly after the break.

Grove hit back on 68 minutes when Coalville's Thomas Kellogg headed into his own net and equalised shortly after as Karl Charlton scrambled the ball in from close range.

The result sees Athletic finish a disappointing league campaign in 13th position, never really recovering from a poor start. Attentions now turn to Wednesday night as Kidsgrove seek to retain the Staffordshire Senior Cup at Vale Park against Rushall Olympic.
